John Tetherly a long time resident of Arlington St. in Chicopee Ma. has collected sap from the neighborhood sugar maple trees for the past 20 years. He is seen here setting a bucket into place; the bucket will collect the sap drawn out of the tree once he has enough sap collected he will boil it down into maple syrup. Every year when the boiling is complete he gives the residents that allow him to tap their trees a jar of his signature “Sweet City Maple Syrup.”

Photo Story

For his first project as a new home owner Tim Maggs decided to tackle the floor in the basement. Installing laminate flooring is a time consuming, knee and backbreaking work and after two weekends along with the help of friends and family Tim was able to lie almost 1000 square feet of it.

After the flooring is down, it is time for the molding. Tim works well into the night with the help of a handy headlight.

Power tools make quick work of a shelving project that Tim is working on. He sets up his saw tables outside to take advantage of the beautiful weather and avoid making a mess inside.

Always the perfectionist, Tim makes sure the cut is lined up just right.

One of his more fun projects is a custom closet Tim was determined to build. Using a level ensures him that his lines are even and his shelves will be too, he also uses large brackets to stabilize them.

Again power tools make quick work for Tim, helping him work efficiently in difficult tight spaces.

The wood burning furnace that came with the house needed some repair. Tim was able to fix the automatic switch for the blower on top and within no time the basement was nice and toasty.

A drawer from IKEA proves to be another time consuming project, eighteen steps later Tim has a smooth sliding draw for his new office.
